Ōtoromiro Hotel

Historic 1870 Hotel overlooking Lyttelton Harbour / Te Whakaraupō
We are open every day and night of the year excluding Christmas Day

HAERE MAI Welcome to the Ōtoromiro Hotel, established 1870. We have been welcoming visitors to this stunning location overlooking Lyttelton harbour for 150 years.  A short 20 minute drive from central Christchurch over the Port Hills or via the Lyttelton road tunnel you will feel a world away in a matter of minutes. We are open for brunch, lunch, dinner 7 days and 7 nights from 11.00am - late daily (Saturday and Sunday from 10.00am)

For much of its existence the Hotel was known as The Ocean View Family Hotel and many came by ferry from Lyttelton to seek out it's "Pleasure Gardens", however, rather than its ocean outlook, it is the commanding views of Lyttelton harbour that it is well known for today. The Hotel enjoys a fine reputation for its classic pub fare, friendly service and extensive selection of local wines and beers. Fantastic views await you out to Quail Island and Lyttelton Harbour from the garden bar, our deck, restaurant, verandah and the guest rooms of the Ōtoromiro Hotel. There are great walks to be had along the shoreline, cycling trips, world famous private gardens and many water based activities are within minutes of the Hotel.

We can cater for a wide variety of functions including dinner parties, wedding receptions, office parties, wakes, corporate planning meetings, and birthday parties.

Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your requirements.

The Ōtoromiro Hotel is independently owned by Jeremy Dyer and Clare Neville-Dyer since 2003.

Governors Bay is a great locale from which you can base your exploration of Banks Peninsula.  The Port town of Lyttelton is just a 10 minute drive away with its eclectic bars and cafes, you can also catch a ferry from here to Diamond harbour, Quail or Ripapa island.  We are also situated a 1 hour drive picturesque drive to the French settlement of Akaroa.  Locally the world famous Ohinetahi gardens are just 10 minutes walk away.

Our 7 first floor rooms are comfortable and contemporary and our 4 balcony rooms have French doors opening out to a shared balcony with glorious views over Lyttelton harbour (Te Whakaraupo).  A light continental breakfast is included in our tariff as is free unlimited wifi.  Please note however none of our rooms have their own ensuite facilities.  We have 2 shared toilets and showers but we do provide bathrobes to preserve your modesty down the hall.

"Fabulous place on a fabulous sunny afternoon

Popped in today without a booking and given it was Easter Monday and a glorious 29 degrees we expected them to be busy so just thought we would stay for a drink. They were busy but they managed to fit us in on the sheltered balcony with fab views and we had a lovely meal too. Service was excellent, friendly and fast and highly recommend this place for outside dining on a beaut day!
